Home “Sweet” Home
If you recently bought a new home from Affordable Homes of Crestview, chances are you’re still trying to make it feel like home. Making your new home feel like Home Sweet Home isn’t as challenging as it might seem and will eventually come over a period of time.
If, however, you want to speed up the process, try these simple and easy tips:
Planning Your Move
Being organised when moving is the key to being able to settle into your new home quickly, part of being organised is to find house removal company that will be a help and not a hinderance. Labelling all furniture and boxes in your old home and providing the removal company of a plan of your new home with each room and item of furniture labelled on the plan will allow the removal company to place all the furniture in it’s correct place (so no lugging heavy furniture for you) and labelling the boxes will allow them to place the boxes into the correct rooms. You could always go one step further and choose a removal company that not only moves your furniture but packs and unpacks everything for you, there are some people that don’t like this idea though as it feels too intrusive having someone going through your drawers and private possessions even if they are professionals and do this on a daily basis can still seem too much for some people. Either way hiring a good removal company and good planning and communication with said removal company allows you to settle into your home in a timely fashion.
Cook Your Favorite Meal
Do you have a favorite meal or special family recipe that you just love to cook and eat? Try whipping up this recipe and enjoying it with your family as a way to celebrate your new home. You can break in the kitchen and treat your family to something that will instantly remind them of the feelings of home. You might be tired after a long move and simply want to grab a burger, but planning for this introductory meal in your home will pay off in the long run.
Make It Smell Like You
This naturally happens over time, but you can speed up the process by making a natural home air freshener (recipe below) doing several loads of laundry, and whipping up a batch of cookies or baking a pie. All of these scents combine to form the homey scent you’ve become used to.
Decorate Right Away
When you move into a new home it’s easy to kick back and want to relax. Don’t do this! Instead start pulling out your decorations right away and get your house set up. This will help ease any frustrations you have with not being able to find something and will save you from procrastinating when it comes to home set up. If you’re just too tired to do this right away, make it a point to at least hang some family photos. To make them easier to access try setting them aside in a specially marked box. If you want to buy new furniture items like a living room ceiling and Pendant light, then shop around until you’ve found the perfect one for your home!!
Plan Home Activities
Instead of heading out for activities, try planning activities at home. This might mean getting the kids involved in planting a garden or painting their bedroom, or simply planning a family movie night where you watch a movie together and indulge in some homemade buttery popcorn.
Put down the bottle of chemical-filled Febreeze. Step away from the Glade Plug-in. Give this natural air freshener a try as a great way to make your new home a Home Sweet Home – you won’t be disappointed. This is actually the delightful concoction Williams-Sonoma keeps simmering to make their store smell so good!
Lemon, Rosemary & Vanilla Simmering Pot
- 1 lemon, sliced
- sprigs of fresh rosemary
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups of water
Simply mix all ingredients into a pot, simmer on low on the stove top or in a crock pot. As the water evaporates, feel free to add more. We used this over several days, adding more water as needed. For a stronger scent, mix and simmer a double or triple batch. Enjoy!
P.S. This also makes a great little hostess or house-warming gift.
